The website reorganization is mostly complete. I still need to reorganize the blog’s categories and tags as well as sort through older posts, restoring those that are still relevant. The blog is only a small part of the site; one goal of the reorganization was to move the blog from the prominent homepage spot and have a proper homepage. Also to get rid of that clunky splash page at the domain home. The transition up one directory wasn’t as smooth as I’d have liked. The blog’s comments were a casualty, unfortunately. 🙁 The site is otherwise in good shape. I dropped a couple of superfluous pages and spiffied up a few things. I’ll be adding some of the older blog posts as time permits, but I may no longer archive all the old newsletters here.
I’ve got new music tumbling around in my head, so given the choice between doing music and cleaning up old posts, I’ll take music any day! And don’t forget…I’m also working on the sequel to my popular mystery, The Malice Plant. 😀 If you see anything that I really need to do on the site, please tweet me or comment, otherwise I’ll just sift through the blog’s archive file at my leisure, restoring a bit here and there.
Here is the new RSS feed for this site: http://gymshoesmusic.com/?feed=rss2
In the very near future (maybe next week, not sure yet) this website will undergo a reorganization. We’re getting rid of the superfluous landing page at the domain name and moving the whole site up one directory. If you’re subscribed to this blog using an rss feedreader, you will need to get the new rss URL because the old one will go dead. (Ditto for anything you’ve bookmarked.)
The site will be down (I hope only briefly) and then pop back up with the homepage at gymshoesmusic.com. Internal links here will initially be dead, but they’ll be fixed as fast as humanly possible. I’ll tweet when the reorg is happening and when the site is sorted out. Since many of you follow the blog in a feedreader I wanted to give you a heads-up. If you’re not already following my Twitter feed, @Gymshoes_, now would be a good time to start! 😉
I’ve now got an artist profile on iTunes Ping! You can follow me there: http://c.itunes.apple.com/us/profile/id-14812. Do you use Ping? What sort of updates do you want from me on Ping? How often? Do you use it like you do social networking? Let me know how (or if) you use Ping. Otherwise I’m just going to wing it. 🙂 As on other social networks, I have the option of following you back (or at least I think I do), so I’ll check in there periodically and maybe follow you back. See ya there! 😀
You can now follow this Gymshoes blog via the Networked Blogs app on Facebook. It’s a half million blogs strong and growing! Check it out…while not all your favorite blogs will be there, if you’re on Facebook a lot, it’s a fast easy way to keep up with the ones that are—like both of my blogs. The links below will take you to the Networked Blogs Facebook page for them. You need to have a Facebook account to use this feedreader.

Obviously, if you’re reading this you already have the URL or feed for this Gymshoes blog. 🙂 The URL for A Truant Disposition is: http://truantdisposition.com and the feed is: http://truantdisposition.com/?feed=rss2
Music: I’ve started working on a new ambient piece of music which I intend to offer free on this site when I get it finished. I’m limiting my time working on it right now because I need to work on the sequel to my mystery novel — and electronica can be just as much a time sink as writing. 😉 I just don’t want you to think that I’ve gone off music just because my old novels are coming out as ebooks and I’m following up on some of them. 🙂 I’ve got a couple of music projects going: it just takes a while to finish them up! 🙂
Gymshoes is now on Twitter. You can follow me at: http://twitter.com/Gymshoes_
(Don’t forget to put the _ at the end!) I’ve got a Twitter widget in the sidebar and assuming it loads (which it doesn’t if Twitter is overwhelmed) you can read my latest tweet and use the arrow at the bottom to scroll back through previous tweets. If you’re on Twitter, follow me to read the bits between the blogs and assorted other things. 😀 (Today I’m boring even myself, but once I slog past the webstuff the tweets will get more creative.) 😉
Hi everyone! I hope you all had a happy holiday season. It’s January and I’ve hit the ground running by finishing up two Facebook pages. I now have Facebook pages with all my music for both Gymshoes and Undead Monkey. 🙂
If you have a Facebook profile, click through and become a Fan! 🙂 There’s streaming music on both pages as well as discographys. Both the UM and Gymshoes blogs are imported to their Facebook pages so you won’t miss any news. I expect to also post some notes there that won’t be elsewhere. You can post all over the place…besides comments to notes, drop in and write on my Wall or participate in discussions on the Forum for each page. 🙂 Become a Fan and post to your friends so they can become fans too. 🙂
I’ll be adding more music apps to Facebook in the future. That’s tied to Gymshoes music becoming more widely available online this year (eg: iTunes, and other major online distributors). The good news is that it will be a lot easier for people to find and buy my music. The downside to this is that I won’t have any control over pricing, which means I can’t sell albums discounted so that some tracks are essentially free. I’ve been trying to avoid this, but the truth is that the Musicblaster app simply hasn’t made sales/downloads even close to what I had the previous year. 🙁 People go with what they know and they know the major online distributors. It appears that people would rather pay more for music from a major online distributor like iTunes or Amazon than buy the music for less from a smaller distributor. This makes no sense in these economic times, but numbers don’t lie and the precipitous drop in what were already meagre sales (from pocket change to pocket lint!) is forcing me to be more mainstream in my approach to distributing my music.
Also up for 2009 will be completion of some unfinished projects that have been hanging fire for the past year. 🙂 New music will be streamed on my Facebook pages and MySpace pages for those who just want to listen (or have an aversion to indie distributors). 😉
I expect some interesting developments for my label Idiolith and my band Undead Monkey this year as well. Once again, I urge you to subscribe to the rss feeds for Gymshoes, Undead Monkey and Idiolith blogs. As spam filters wipe out more and more of my newsletters fewer and fewer of you are receiving them. Feedreaders (myyahoo, bloglines, live bookmarks in Firefox, etc.) are the best way to keep up with news. I’m gonna be posting there more often than I send newsletters. Yes, I will be blogging more! 🙂
I hope everyone has a good year this year. I’m wishing you all the best. 🙂
We’re moving this Gymshoes site from gymshoesmusic.us to gymshoesmusic.com. The process has begun, but you won’t notice anything different here until everything is moved and “live” at the .com domain. At that point in time you’ll need to change your bookmark and feed for Gymshoes. For a while this site and the .com site will both exist side-by-side with notices on .us to make the necessary changes to .com. The next phase will be to automatically forward everyone who comes here to the .com domain. For the moment, the current contact e-mail remains good and will be forwarded to the .com address (to be set up shortly), but the .us mail account will be phased out over the next several months. This is a lot of upheaval, but there’s two good reasons why we’re putting ourselves —and you!—through this little mini-hell. 😆
As you know, the plan has been this year to try out putting some of my music on a commercial download site. That will be happening soon. Strictly speaking a .us site cannot be a commercial site; it must be for personal use only. (Although I’ve been to totally business sites at .us domains, I don’t want to get any grief about it.) Having Gymshoes as a .com allows the option of selling a few tracks right from the site since some stores have widgets that can be embedded on webpages. Also, increasingly the .us mail address is encountering problems with spam filters. Gymshoes may actually be losing fans who aren’t receiving the newsletter as they should. 🙁 It’s ironic that such an anti-spam, pro-privacy freak like me is getting tagged as a spammer, but frequently “.us” domains are used for illegitimate activities.
Even though Gymshoes will be a “dot com”, it will still offer free music. 🙂 Stay tuned here for more announcements about when the new URL and feed are live! 🙂
